1. Paglia Orba Hike

Region: Northwest
Difficulty: Very hard
Average duration: 8 h 30 m
Length: 17.6 km
Elevation gain: 1290 m

Prepare for an epic adventure as you conquer Paglia Orba, the third-highest peak on the island, rising 2,525 meters above sea level. Distinguishable by its unique, tooth-shaped silhouette, this hike offers one of the most beautiful panoramas in Corsica. Spectacular views await you, including the Cinto massif with its magnificent palette of colors, the Fango valley, the Galeria and Porto gulfs, and the nearby Capu Tafunatu.

This climb is on the border between hiking and mountaineering and is reserved for the most experienced hikers. From the Ciottulu di i Mori refuge to the summit, the route follows the Golo, Corsica's longest river, on the GR20 trail. There are no major difficulties along this section. However, the final ascent from the refuge presents a different challenge entirely, involving technical scrambling passages and tricky navigation through a rocky maze.

2. Capu d'Orto Hike

Region: Northwest
Difficulty: Moderate
Average duration: 5 h
Length: 10.8 km
Elevation gain: 860 m

The Capu d'Orto hike leads to one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Corsica, overlooking the Gulf of Porto and the famous Calanques de Piana from its altitude of 1,294 meters. This red granite peak, a veritable "mountain in the sea," offers spectacular views of the calanques, the gulf, and the magnificent rocky peaks of E Tre Signore rising in the foreground.

The trail first winds through the Piana pine forest, then turns onto rocky and mineral terrain where the panorama gradually reveals itself until reaching the summit.

3. Monte Rotondo Hike

Region: Central
Difficulty: Very hard
Average duration: 8 h
Length: 13.4 km
Elevation gain: 1650 m

Climbing Monte Rotondo leads to the iconic summit of Corsica's second-highest mountain range, which rises to an altitude of 2,622 meters. From this central vantage point, you can see nearly the entire island, from the east and west coasts to legendary peaks such as Paglia Orba and Monte Cinto. Below, you will also see Lake Batanella, the largest natural lake on the island, located at an altitude of 2,321 meters.

However, this exceptional view comes with a challenge: the hike involves 1,650 meters of elevation gain and a very technical route after Lake Oriente, making it suitable only for experienced hikers.

4. Monte Senino Hike

Region: Northwest
Difficulty: Hard
Average duration: 4 h
Length: 5.9 km
Elevation gain: 680 m

Perched between the Gulfs of Girolata and Porto, Monte Senino boasts one of the most spectacular 360° panoramic views on the island. The climb passes through Punta Castellacciu (587 m), whose views alone are reward enough for the effort, before reaching Monte Senino's summit at 618 meters. Throughout the hike, the scenery is breathtaking: the Scandola Nature Reserve, the ever-present Mediterranean Sea, and mountain ridges are revealed as you progress.

Don't be fooled by the route's modest elevation gain and distance; this hike is technically difficult and requires experience with rough terrain.

5. Monte Cinto Hike

Region: Central
Difficulty: Hard
Average duration: 8 h
Length: 11.1 km
Elevation gain: 1520 m

At 2,706 meters, Monte Cinto is Corsica's highest peak and one of the island's major hikes. Starting from the Haut-Asco resort, the trail initially follows the renowned GR20, then veers off onto a more technical route towards the summit.

This long, demanding hike takes you through spectacular, high-mountain landscapes and rewards your efforts with a 360° view of the Asco Valley, the surrounding peaks—including the majestic Paglia Orba—and the Mediterranean Sea in the background.
