Plodda Falls
This hike will take you to Plodda Falls, which plunges 46 meters into a spectacular gorge located in a magnificent forest filled with Douglas firs, larches, and redwoods. These majestic trees were planted in the 19th century by Lord Tweedmouth, who aimed to create a forest of varied species and spectacular dimensions.
The highlight is the observation platform suspended above the gorge, which offers a breathtaking view of the falls.
Remarks
Access and Parking: There is a large, free parking lot at the end of the forest track, about 4 km from Tomich. The last 3 km are on an easy, unpaved track.
Forest: Glen Affric is home to one of the largest primitive forests in the United Kingdom, composed of naturally growing species. Plodda Forest is an exception; its spectacular trees, which were planted in the 19th century, are now listed and protected.
Suggested routes: there are two marked trails: the Plodda Falls Trail, which leads directly to the falls, and the Tweedmouth Trail, a longer loop through the forest. The route described here combines these two trails.
Difficulties and description of the hike
This hike is not technically difficult and is suitable for everyone. The trail follows well-maintained, clearly marked forest paths throughout the route.
What you'll love
- The spectacular view from the platform suspended above the waterfall: A unique and dizzying experience that allows you to contemplate the torrent plunging into the gorge. Thrills guaranteed!
