King’s cave

Immerse yourself in a walk to the west of the Isle of Arran and discover the famous King's Cave, whose name is thought to date back to Robert the Bruce's visit in 1307.

Follow a well-marked forest path. Be careful on the coastal stretch, as the rocks can sometimes be slippery at times. Once you've reached King's Cave, immerse yourself in the history and mystery of this legendary place.

More details on the hike

From the parking lot at the start, you'll find information panels to guide you on this hike. The loop can be done in any direction. There's no need for specific instructions - the trail is excellent, and in places even signposted, which is quite rare in Scotland.

Enjoy the superb views of the west coast of Arran, including the Pirmill Hills and Kilbrannan Sound. Along the coast, you can admire natural arches and explore caves. Although the caves are modest in size, it's a good idea to bring a torch or headlamp to visit them safely.
