Brekkefossen Waterfalls

This popular hike from the village of Flåm in Norway takes you to the spectacular Brekkefossen waterfall. The route combines a pleasant walk alongside the Flåm River with a short but invigorating climb to the waterfall. The highlight is undoubtedly the panoramic view of Flåm, its green valley and the majestic waters of the Aurlandfjord from the viewpoint.

Remarks

Parking: The village of Flåm has numerous paid parking lots. For those who wish to shorten the approach walk, there is a small lot with 5 to 6 spaces located near the trailhead. Plan for a round-trip distance of about 1 km from this point to the waterfall.

Difficulties of the hike

The approach from the center of Flåm is a very easy walk along the road that follows the river—ideal for warming up. Then, you will face a short but steep climb of about 20 to 25 minutes, with more than 500 stone steps leading directly to the foot of the waterfall. The initial section along the road is not marked, so it is advisable to have a GPS device or map handy to ensure you head in the right direction at the junctions.
