Raudmelen
The hike to Raudmelen (972 m) is one of the region's must-do activities. It offers spectacular views of the Sognefjord—Norway's longest fjord—and the surrounding mountains. This climb is very popular with locals and offers an authentic immersion in Norwegian nature via an excellent trail dotted with unforgettable viewpoints.
The route begins in a dense, shady forest and gradually opens up to rocky, open landscapes as you approach the summit. Raudmelen is the perfect all-around hike, offering diverse landscapes, a high-quality trail, exceptional views, and few hikers. At the summit is a modern refuge where you can spend the night and continue your adventure. It's a unique experience between fjord and mountain.

Difficulties of the hike
The trail leading to the summit of Raudmelen is an exemple of proper development and maintenance. In the wettest and steepest sections, wide stone steps, built by Nepalese Sherpas ensure a comfortable progress. Throughout the ascent, benches, tables, and shelters are thoughtfully placed, inviting you to pause and take in the magnificent panoramas or enjoy a picnic.
While the route presents no major technical difficulties, the 920-meter elevation gain requires good physical condition. Impeccable red T markings, reinforced by directional signs and maps at intersections, makes orientation easy. Designed to be accessible to as many people as possible, this trail lives up to its promise.

- Exceptional views of the Sognefjord and its many branches, visible throughout the climb and at the summit.
- Two rest areas with views: Orrabenken (370 m) and Buråsi (575 m), perfect for a contemplative break or a picnic facing the fjord.
- A refuge at the summit, with a contemporary design, built by architecture students from Bergen. On the way back, the cozy Balabu refuge (400 m) offers another unforgettable place to rest.
