Brunakseltinden
The hike up Brunakseltinden leads to a spectacular viewpoint on the Helvetestinden ridge. Hikers can enjoy breathtaking views of the turquoise waters of Bunesfjorden and Kjerkfjorden, as well as the majestic peaks of Moskenesøya Island.
This easy, fairly popular hike begins in Vindstad, a hamlet that is only accessible by boat from Reine. Though simple, the hike provides magnificent views throughout and is an excellent introduction to the dramatic landscapes of the Lofoten Islands.
Remarks
Best time to go: mid-May to October on average. See the Norway FAQ for more details.
Access by boat required: Vindstad is only accessible by boat from Reine, with two to four departures daily, depending on the season. You can check the timetables on the Reis Nordland website.
Extension: If you are an avid hiker with a head for heights, you may want to consider continuing along the ridge (see the Helvetestinden hike).
Difficulties and description of the hike
The well-defined trail to the summit has no technical difficulties. First, the route follows a flat track for 1.8 kilometers towards Bunes Beach and the Einangen Pass (75 m). After climbing for about an hour from the pass, you will discover the beautiful Kjerfjorden fjord on the other side of the mountain, before following the ridge of Brunakseltinden to the final viewpoint.
