Reinebringen
Reinebringen is undoubtedly one of the most popular hikes in the Lofoten Islands, in Norway. From its summit, hikers can enjoy a breathtaking view of the village of Reine and its surrounding islets — an iconic scene frequently seen on social media.
Despite the almost constant crowds, the hike is definitely worth it! The reward for your efforts is one of the best in the region! This short, 484-meter climb will take you to one of the most spectacular panoramas in the archipelago.
Remarks
Best time to go: Mid-May to mid-October on average. See the Norway FAQ for more details.
Parking: Access is from the parking lot at the intersection of the E10 and the road to Reine, which often fills up in the high season. An alternative parking lot is located two kilometers south on the E10, after the bridge over the Djupfjord.
Alternative route for experienced hikers: If you are looking for wilder routes and are in good physical condition, I recommend the Helvete hike. Although it is more demanding, it offers even more spectacular and diverse views.
Difficulties of the hike
The route does not present any technical difficulties, thanks to improvements made by Sherpas between 2016 and 2019. They replaced the original rutted and dangerous trail with a 1,500-step stone staircase. The steps are high, making the staircase efficient but physically demanding. Imagine climbing 450 meters in elevation over about a kilometer, which makes for quite an intense effort.
What you'll love
- The magnificent panorama that suddenly reveals itself upon reaching the pass, offering a bird's-eye view of the village of Reine, its colorful cabins, and the turquoise waters of the Reinefjord.
- The efficiency of the route: The effort/reward ratio is hard to beat. In less than an hour and a half, you can reach one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Lofoten.
- The remarkable work that went into building the stone staircase, which makes the climb more accessible despite the steep slope.
