Tønsåsheia
The hike to Tønsåsheia (769 m) begins in the historic village of Nusfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Lofoten archipelago in Norway. This relatively uncrowded ascent is a peaceful alternative to the region's more popular routes, while rewarding hikers with exceptional panoramic views stretching from Moskenesøya to Vestvågøya Island. From the summit, you can enjoy magnificent vistas of the turquoise waters of Skjelfjord and the cliffs of Stjerntinden (934 m), the highest peak on Flakstadøya Island.
Remarks
Best time to go: Mid-June to September on average. See the Norway FAQ for more details.
Start: Park in the Nusfjord village parking lot and follow the unpaved road south to one of the last rorbuer. The trail begins on the right. There is an entrance fee to Nusfjord village (NOK 100 per person in 2025).
Difficulties of the hike
The climb has a total elevation gain of 850 meters over approximately eight kilometers round trip. Although the route is relatively short, it has very steep slopes that require good physical condition.
The well-visible trail remains clear all the way to the summit, with cairns placed at regular intervals to aid in orientation. As you gain altitude, the terrain becomes progressively rockier, with unstable sections. The route is not recommended in wet weather, as some steep sections can become very slippery.
