Vidasethovden
Hike to the 1,227-meter summit of Vidasethovden and discover the Vestland region of Norway. Starting from the hamlet of Lunde, the hike takes you to the heights, where you will be rewarded with one of the most spectacular views of the majestic Sognefjord, the longest fjord in the country.
Remarks
Best time of year to hike: From mid-June to September, on average. See the Norway FAQ for more details.
Access: Parking is very limited around Lunde Farm (only a few spaces). However, due to the low traffic on this route, parking is usually possible without too much difficulty.
Local event: Every year in early July, the route hosts the “Vidasete Opp” mountain race, in which the best athletes reach the summit in just 34 minutes.
Difficulties and description of the hike
The route begins at Lunde Farm, which sits at an elevation of approximately 400 meters. Due to an elevation gain of 820 meters and several steep sections, particularly near the summit, this hike requires a certain level of physical fitness. There are no technical sections.
As is often the case in Norway, the trail first passes through pine and birch forests before opening up to rocky landscapes. While the trail is generally well marked, stay alert as some markings may be subtle or spaced far apart, requiring extra attention at times.
What you'll love
- The 360° panorama from the summit: A spectacular view of the Sognefjord, its many branches and the surrounding peaks. This is a typical Norwegian scene that will remain etched in your memory.
- The peaceful atmosphere of the traditional Vidasete mountain pasture: Located at an altitude of 788 meters, this mountain pasture offers a welcome break in a bucolic setting.
