Sætrenibba Hike

Hike overview

Take on the rewarding climb of the Sætrenibba hike (859 m) in the heart of the Sunnmøre Alps in Norway's Møre og Romsdal region. The route follows a section of the historic old postal road and climbs to a summit that offers stunning views of the surrounding fjords, including the renowned Geirangerfjord, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Remarks

Best time of year to hike: From June to October, on average. See the Norway FAQ for more details.

Difficulties of the hike

More than 75 % of the climb is on the old postal road, Den Trondhjemske Postveg. This wide, well-marked trail gently winds uphill to the remains of the Ljøsætra mountain pasture.
The final 100 meters of elevation gain are on a mountain trail, clearly indicated by a sign at the intersection with the postal road.

What you'll love

  • The spectacular view: A memorable panorama awaits you at the summit, embracing the Geirangerfjord and the Hellesylt region.
  • The historic trail: Walk in the footsteps of postmen from years past on a well-preserved section of the “Den Trondhjemske Postveg.” This historical immersion will appeal to some, while others may prefer wilder, less developed trails.
  • The charm of the mountain pastures: Pass through the ruins of Ljøsætra to experience the pastoral life of the Norwegian mountains in years past.
