Skageflå Farm
The Skageflå hike boasts some of the most stunning vistas of the renowned Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perched 270 meters above the fjord, this old mountain farm offers spectacular views of the Seven Sisters waterfall. It's a unique experience that combines cultural heritage with magnificent panoramas of one of Norway's most beautiful fjords.
Remarks
Best time of year to hike: From May to October, on average. See the Norway FAQ for more details.
Parking: A small parking area (around 10 spaces) is available in the hamlet of Homlong. Indicative cost: NOK 120 in 2025.
Difficulties of the hike
The route follows a well-maintained forest trail that is accessible to most hikers. There are a few steep sections, but no major technical difficulties. The total elevation gain is about 850 meters. Only one section, which is located on the side of a cliff, requires extra caution. This section is short (a few dozen meters) and equipped with a solid handrail for safety.
The path is unmarked but well-signposted from the start and at the few junctions. Despite the growing popularity of Geirangerfjord, this hike retains a natural, unspoiled atmosphere far from Geiranger's sometimes excessive tourist crowds!
What you'll love
- Breathtaking panoramas: Enjoy stunning views of the Geirangerfjord from Skageflå Farm and several viewpoints along the trail.
- Discover a historic site: The isolated Skageflå Farm, in operation until 1918, offers a glimpse into rural life of days gone by. It's also the perfect spot for a picnic or a break.
- Immerse yourself in nature: Hike through a forest in a UNESCO-listed natural site and take in the scenery.
