Fløyen
Mount Fløyen is one of the seven mountains that tower over Bergen, offering exceptional panoramic views of the city, the fjord, and the surrounding wooded hills. Accessible on foot from the city center or via the famous Fløibanen funicular, this hike harmoniously blends the urban environment with Norwegian nature. Very popular with tourists and locals alike, this walk is an excellent introduction to Scandinavian landscapes and serves as a starting point for exploring the wilder trails that extend beyond the summit.
Remarks
Flexible itinerary: Feel free to take the Fløibanen funicular up or down, or both, to tailor the hike to your schedule and energy level.
Large crowds at the summit: The ease of access attracts many visitors, especially during peak season. Don't expect a quiet atmosphere—this is not a wilderness experience, but rather a lively, easily accessible viewpoint.
Difficulties of the hike
This is an easy route that is accessible to all. The only "difficulties" of this hike are the 300-meter elevation gain and the occasionally steep slopes. The route begins on a paved section in town and quickly turns onto a wide forest trail.
Although the circuit is not marked, there are numerous directional signs pointing to Fløyen. Because so many people use the trail, it's impossible to get lost on this popular route!
What you'll love
- An unforgettable panoramic view of Bergen, the old Bryggen district, the bustling harbor, the fjords, the ocean, and the surrounding mountains.
- A central and convenient departure point, just a stone's throw from the fish market and Bryggen: no need to take transportation, the hike starts right in the city!
- The flexibility offered by the Fløibanen funicular: Choose a quick ride up or down, depending on your mood and how much time you have.
