Quelle est la meilleure période pour randonner en Norvège ?

La saison de randonnée s'étend globalement de mi-juin à mi-septembre. Les itinéraires côtiers ou de basse altitude sont praticables dès mai, tandis que les sommets au-dessus de 1 000 m peuvent rester enneigés jusqu'à début juillet. Au-delà du cercle polaire (Lofoten, Senja), le soleil de minuit offre une luminosité continue de début juin à fin juillet. L'automne (mi-septembre à octobre) reste une option intéressante pour les couleurs et les premières aurores boréales.

Les randonnées en Norvège sont-elles difficiles ?

Pas nécessairement. La Norvège possède des sentiers pour tous les niveaux, de la promenade familiale d'une heure au sommet engagé avec 1 800 m de dénivelé. Les itinéraires les plus connus (Reinebringen, Preikestolen) sont bien aménagés et accessibles à la plupart des marcheurs. En revanche, le relief norvégien est rarement plat : même les randonnées modérées impliquent souvent des montées soutenues depuis le niveau de la mer.

Peut-on bivouaquer librement en Norvège ?

Oui. Le droit d'accès à la nature (allemannsretten), inscrit dans la loi norvégienne depuis 1957, autorise chacun à circuler librement sur les terres non cultivées et à y bivouaquer. Les règles principales : planter sa tente à au moins 150 mètres de toute habitation, ne pas rester plus de deux nuits au même emplacement sans autorisation, et ne laisser aucune trace. Les feux de camp sont interdits en forêt du 15 avril au 15 septembre.

Comment se repérer sur les sentiers en Norvège ?

La Norvège dispose d'un réseau de 20 000 km de sentiers balisés, entretenus par l'Association norvégienne de randonnée (DNT). La Région des Fjords et Senja sont bien balisées, même dans les secteurs peu fréquentés. Les Lofoten font exception : en dehors des itinéraires les plus connus, le balisage est souvent absent. La météo pouvant changer rapidement, il est préférable de toujours disposer d'une trace GPS.

Les sentiers populaires en Norvège sont-ils surfréquentés ?

Certains, oui. Le Preikestolen dépasse les 300 000 visiteurs par an, Besseggen environ 60 000 par saison. Mais ce constat ne concerne qu'une poignée d'itinéraires surmédiatisés. La grande majorité des sentiers norvégiens restent étonnamment peu fréquentés, y compris des randonnées offrant des panoramas tout aussi remarquables que les grands classiques.

Non, la très grande majorité des randonnées en Norvège se pratiquent de façon autonome. Le pays est sûr, avec des sentiers bien entretenus et un réseau de refuges (DNT) fiable. L'essentiel est de bien préparer chaque sortie : consulter la météo, disposer d'une trace GPS, adapter l'itinéraire à son niveau et prévoir un équipement adapté aux changements de temps rapides.
