Lac de Nino

Lac de Nino, surrounded by numerous pozzines (small peaty lakes), is one of Corsica's natural gems. Located on the Camputile plateau, it is the source of the Tavignanu, the second longest river on the island.

The trail is in excellent condition and crosses the Valdu Niellu forest before becoming more rocky and technical. It is marked in yellow until Lac de Nino, where it joins the GR20. Expect to meet many hikers, as this is a very popular excursion.

More details on the hike

The start of this hike is on the D84 road, at the Maison forestière de Popaghja. The trail is well maintained, clearly signposted and marked in yellow. It crosses the Valdu Niellu forest in the refreshing shade of the laricio pines and reaches the Colga sheepfolds after about an hour's walk. The terrain then becomes increasingly rocky, sometimes slightly technical, with some easy scrambles.

When you reach Bocca a Stazzona (1775 m), the highest point of the hike, you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Lac de Nino, with the Rotondo massif in the background. You then descend a few dozen meters to reach the Camputile plateau and the shores of the lake. This is the ideal place to take a break, enjoy the scenery and observe the pozzines, horses and cows grazing in this exceptional setting.

For the return journey, you'll follow the same route.
