Seneca Tower Hike

Hike overview

Listed as a historic monument since 1840, the Tower of Seneca is an imposing Genoese tower built in the 16th century on a rocky outcrop 564 meters above sea level. It is a true natural viewpoint that offers unobstructed views of the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Seas, both sides of Cap Corse, and the Luri Valley.

This short hike begins at the former Saint-Nicolas convent, which is now a lodge, and ascends through the shaded scrubland to the summit.

Remarks

Access: From the Santa Lucia Pass (381 m), follow the narrow road for about two kilometers to the free parking lot of the former Saint-Nicolas Convent (Les Gîtes Sénèque). Another parking lot is located lower down at the Santa Lucia chapel near the pass and allows you to reach the start of the hike via a path through the woods.

Difficulties and description of the hike

Although very short, the climb to the Seneca Tower is steep and constant from the start. The well-marked trail winds mostly through a pine and holm oak forest before becoming more rugged as it approaches the summit.

What you'll love

  • An exceptional 360° panorama from the tower offering spectacular views of both sides of Cap Corse
  • The discovery of a remarkable historical monument and testament to Genoese defensive architecture and the rich history of Cap Corse
