Girolata via Punta di a Literniccia

Discover this wonderful itinerary that leads to Girolata via the Punta di a Literniccia, a 778 meter peak. The fishing village of Girolata, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, overlooked by an imposing 16th-century fort is only accessible by boat or on foot. This hike follows a wide ridge overlooking the sea on both sides for quite a while, offering absolutely stunning views of the Gulf of Girolata and the Scandola nature reserve.

Most of the route follows the Mare e Monti path, marked in orange, and does not present any technical difficulties. The main difficulty lies in the fairly long length of the walk, but this is more than made up by the variety and beauty of the scenery. The only drawback is that you have to follow the D81 road for around two kilometers to come back to the Palmarella pass. If you're fit enough and have the time, we strongly recommend this route rather than the much more traditional ‘sentier du facteur’ (postman's path) to Girolata. In fact, this walk is much more interesting than just visiting the village.
