Monte d’Oro

Prepare yourself for an epic adventure by climbing Monte d'Oro, a majestic peak in the Rotondo Massif that reaches 1389 meters near Vizzavona. Its central position makes it a veritable natural observatory, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area.

The hike is very demanding, due to the considerable difference in altitude and the long distance. Above all, there are numerous rocky passages and some scrambling in the couloir near the summit.

Follow the red and white markings to the footbridges, where you leave the GR20 and take the yellow trail to the north. The route takes you through the magnificent laricio pine forest of Vizzavona, before the landscape gradually changes to rocky areas and steep ridges as you gain altitude. Be careful, as the path can be harder to spot on the higher ground, especially on the way back. On the way down, you'll find the GR20 and the Agnone valley, where you can cool down in the splendid natural pools formed by the Cascades des Anglais.
