A Maniccia
A Maniccia (2496 m) is a peak nestled in the heart of the Rotondo massif. The hike begins in the popular Restonica valley, but the summit and the valley leading to it are a haven of tranquillity, rarely frequented by hikers.
The trail is not overly technical, but it does have some steep slopes and numerous rocky and scree passages. The route is not marked, so be sure to follow the cairns along the way. The panoramic view from the summit is remarkable, but the scenery along the way is also magnificent and very wild.
More details on the hike
You start from the “bergeries de Grotelle” at the end of the Restonica valley road. Expect a lot of traffic for the first 15 minutes of the walk, as the path is the same as the one that leads to the famous lakes of Melo and Capitello, popular with tourists in summer. Be prepared to walk in single file!
Note that the fork to the Rinoso valley is not marked by signs, but by cairns. Keep your eyes open to make sure you don't miss it. The climb up the left bank of the Rinoso stream is steep, but once you reach a small plateau, the scenery is well worth the effort. From here, you'll walk mainly over scree until you reach Bocca Muzzella at an altitude of 2206 meters. Don't miss the small detour to the west to admire the two splendid Rinoso lakes.
From the Col de Muzzella, follow the ridge to the summit of A Muvrella. You'll be rewarded with a breathtaking panorama: admire the Rotondo massif, the Rinoso and Capitello lakes, Lombarduccio, the Cinto massif and even the Mediterranean Sea in the background.
For the return journey, follow the same route.

REMARKS
If you're looking for an extra adventure on the way back, consider descending through the Cavacciole valley and completing your route. However, bear in mind that this option is shorter but far more technical. The path is sometimes difficult to spot, or even non-existent, and includes a rocky passage that is very exposed and vertiginous. This descent should therefore be reserved for the most seasoned hikers, with solid mountain experience and no fear of heights. (download gpx).
