Tavignano Gorges Hike

Hike overview

The Tavignano Gorges hike traverses a magnificent, unspoiled valley and offers an alternative to the popular Restonica Valley.

Starting in Corte, the historic capital of Corsica, this ancient mule track winds along steep granite gorges to the Russulinu footbridge, where you will find superb natural pools. This refreshing and spectacular route is ideal for escaping the summer heat.

Difficulties of the hike

This hike does not present any particular technical difficulties. It follows the Mare a Mare Nord trail along an old mule track and is clearly marked with orange signs. It winds through the valley for about six kilometers, alternating between gentle climbs and short descents to the Passerella di u Russulinu.

You can return via the same route or, if you're feeling adventurous, via unmarked, steep trails that descend directly to the banks of the Tavignano.

What you'll love

  • Spectacular views of the citadel of Corte at the start, as well as breathtaking views of the eroded granite cliffs.
  • The natural pools at the Russulinu footbridge: Crystal clear and invite you to swim in a magnificent setting.
  • The wild and unspoiled nature of the valley, accessible only on foot and is less frequented than the Restonica.
