Spelunca gorges
The Spelunca Gorges hike takes you into the heart of a stunning canyon carved into granite between the villages of Ota and Évisa. This ancient mule track, stretching over two kilometers, crosses impressive gorges dominated by cliffs over 500 meters high.
The route connects two remarkable Genoese bridges, the Ponte di Pianella and the Zaglia Bridge, which are classified as historical monuments and bear witness to the skill of the builders of that time. Numerous natural pools along the way invite you to take a dip, making this hike an ideal outing on hot summer days.
Remarks
Route: The route begins at a place called "deux ponts d'Ota" on the D124. The Zaglia Bridge is upstream (toward Évisa), and the Ponte di Pianella is downstream (toward Ota). To visit both bridges, return to the starting point, then head back in the opposite direction as shown on the map.
Parking: There is free roadside parking at the "Two Bridges of Ota," but spaces are limited. In July and August, arriving early is highly recommended.
Difficulties and description of the hike
This hike is accessible to all, with only 160 meters of elevation gain spread over 4.2 kilometers and no technical difficulties. The route follows the old Mare e Monti mule track, which is clearly marked in orange along its entire length.
