Fango Valley Hike

Hike overview

The Fango Valley hike takes you into the heart of a UNESCO-classified biosphere reserve since 1977. The trail runs alongside the exceptionally clear waters of the Fango River, which is lined with reddish rocks and dotted with numerous natural pools.

Throughout the hike, you can admire Capu Tafunatu, a distinctive peak with a 35-meter hole in its summit that dominates the valley. This easy, accessible hike is the perfect place to swim in the river, especially in the summer.

Remarks

Parking: Paid parking is available after the Ponte Vecchiu. Indicative price in 2025: €5 for a car and €12 for a motorhome from mid-June to mid-September. Outside of peak season, parking is generally free.

Swimming: The most beautiful natural pools are located in the first half of the hike, before the trail gradually moves away from the riverbanks. The waters of the Fango River are slightly warmer than those of other Corsican rivers thanks to the valley's low altitude, gentle slope, and abundant sunshine.

Difficulties of the hike

This hike presents no technical difficulties. The orange Mare e Monti trail is clearly marked and easy to follow. The low elevation gain of 110 meters makes this walk accessible to everyone, including families with young children.
