Lac de l’Oriente
Discover the Lac de l'Oriente, considered one of the most beautiful on the island. Nestled in the Restonica Valley, at the foot of the majestic Rotondo (2622 m), this lake offers a peaceful escape from the tourist crowds. You'll only come across a few hikers on this excursion.
The trail is in excellent condition, unmarked but easy to follow thanks to the cairns that mark it regularly. There are no major difficulties to report. Take your time to admire the natural beauty that surrounds you, and let yourself be enchanted by the tranquility of the Lac de l'Oriente.
More details on the hike
The start of this hike is about 100 meters after the Timozzo bridge, along the road leading to the Restonica Valley. Please note that there is no parking facilities there. If you're traveling by car, it's advisable to arrive early as there are just a few parking spaces along the road.
The ascent to the Lac de l'Oriente is steady, with some twists and turns as the slope gets steeper. You'll walk in the shade of the Corte Restonica forest for about an hour and a half, until you reach the Timozzo sheepfold. Then you're out in the open, in an increasingly mineral environment, until you reach the Lac de l'Oriente, at an altitude of 2064 meters. Nestled in the cirque formed by the Rotondo massif, its location offers magnificent views. Don't hesitate to extend your walk a few hundred meters beyond the lake to admire it at its best!
The way back is the same as the way out.
