Brúarfoss Waterfall
Brúarfoss is a magnificent waterfall, famous for its brilliant blue water. It is fed by the Brúará River, which is formed by the melting of the Langjökull glacier. It is this glacial water that gives Brúarfoss its unique sky-blue color. Although not as large or as powerful as many other waterfalls in Iceland, the exceptional hue of its water makes it particularly special.
The Brúarfoss waterfall has become very popular in recent years, not least because of the parking lot built in 2023, just a 5-minute walk from the falls. Previously, it was a 7-kilometer hike to get there.
The name Brúarfoss means “bridge falls”, in reference to a stone bridge that once stood above the waterfall and provided a means of crossing the river. This stone bridge disappeared hundreds of years ago, but today you'll find a wooden footbridge near the falls.
