Lodalen Valley

Welcome to Lodalen, one of Norway's most spectacular valleys, located near Loen. Less well known than its neighbor Oldedalen, it nevertheless reveals a wilder and equally impressive natural landscape.

Lodalen's history is as dramatic as its landscapes are sublime. In the early 20th century, two catastrophic landslides on Mount Ramnefjellet, in 1905 and 1936, caused tsunamis in the lake that killed more than 100 people. These tragic events have left their mark on local history, yet the area's striking beauty remains undiminished.

The valley's main attraction is the stunning Lake Lovatnet, whose glacial waters boast an intensely vibrant shade of emerald green. Steep, vertiginous mountains plunge directly into the lake all around, creating spectacularly beautiful landscapes.

As you drive along the road winding alongside Lovatnet, majestic waterfalls come into view, including Ramnefjellfossen, one of the world's highest at 818 meters. At the far end of the valley is Kjenndalsbreen, an arm of the colossal Jostedalsbreen glacier that invites you to immerse yourself in a kingdom of ice.
