Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa located on the Reykjanes peninsula, in western Iceland. It is one of the country's most popular tourist attractions. Its proximity to the airport makes it an excellent relaxing and soothing way to end your stay.

The Blue Lagoon is a vast lake ideal for swimming, with an average water temperature of around 39°C. The milky-blue color of the water is due to its high silica content, which forms a white mud at the bottom of the lake that bathers can apply to their skin.

The history of the Blue Lagoon dates back to 1976, when it formed next to the Svartsengi geothermal power station. The lagoon was not formed naturally, but by human activity, resulting from excess hot water from the power plant. The water is perfectly clean and contains no chemical substances, only minerals that have proved highly beneficial to the skin.

REMARKS

Admission to the Blue Lagoon is not free, and costs around 50 euros for basic access. It's important to note that reservations must be made at least several days in advance.

However, even without admission, the visit is well worth it. You can walk around the Blue Lagoon and the geothermal power station. The scenery is magnificent and almost unreal, with a striking contrast between the milky blue of the water and the dark lava fields covered with green moss.
