Hraunfossar
Discover Hraunfossar, a series of waterfalls unique to Iceland, formed by streams flowing beneath the Hallmundarhraun lava field. This lava field was formed by the eruption of a volcano beneath the nearby Langjökull glacier. The name Hraunfossar literally means ‘lava waterfall’ in Icelandic, as water gushes in many small streams from cavities in the lava before flowing into the river Hvítá.
Hraunfossar is one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls, with an incomparable charm. It doesn't impress by its power or volume, but rather by its striking beauty and the almost unreal turquoise colour of the river.
