Dynjandi Waterfall
The impressive Dynjandi waterfalls are located at the end of Arnarfjörður fjord. They are the largest in the western fjords and are often rightly called the jewel of the region. The word “dynjandi” means “thundering” in Icelandic, which becomes obvious as soon as you hear the powerful sound of the waterfall. Measuring 30 metres wide at the top and 60 metres at the bottom, they cascade down 100 metres, reminiscent of a bridal veil.
Downstream, six other waterfalls cascade down to the sea. The parking lot is at the very bottom, and a short 15-minute hike with 100 metres of ascent leads to the base of Dynjandi, the main waterfall.
