Aldeyjarfoss Waterfall
Important note: I did not have the opportunity to visit the Aldeyjarfoss waterfalls, as I did not have a 4WD when I was in the area. It is a place that I would really like to discover, and the rating in ‘My Rating’ only reflects my first impression of the site.
Aldeyjarfoss is a spectacular waterfall located in the heart of the Bárðardalur valley in northern Iceland. It is fed by the Skjálfandafljót river, which plunges some 20 metres into a basin surrounded by hexagonal basalt columns, creating a striking contrast between the dark rock and the turbulent water.
Access to Aldeyjarfoss requires a 4WD vehicle, which is compulsory on F-roads. However, the gravel track to the waterfall is relatively easy. This slight difficulty of access contributes to making it a less frequented place, thus preserving its wild character.
For photography enthusiasts, Aldeyjarfoss is a real gem. Its unique geological formations and the power of the waterfall offer exceptional photographic opportunities.
