Langisjór
Welcome to Vatnajökull National Park, home to the mysterious Langisjór Lake, surrounded by majestic mountains and spectacular glaciers. Lost in the heart of the Highlands, this natural treasure lies amidst an immense desert of black sand and green mountains. Its name, which literally means “long lake”, perfectly reflects its shape, stretching almost 20 kilometers long and only 2 kilometers wide. What makes Langisjór so special is its unspoilt isolation and raw beauty. Adventurers who undertake this journey are rewarded with an incomparable sense of solitude and a deep connection with nature. For the full experience, consider spending a night in one of the rudimentary campsites.
This viewpoint is a vantage point overlooking the east and north of the region, with its many streams winding through the mountains, and the majestic Vatnajökull as a backdrop. Explore other picturesque viewpoints along the shores of Lake Langisjór. And above all, don't miss the climb to Sveinstindur, the neighboring peak that unveils a most remarkable panorama.
