Lago d'Antorno to Rifugio Savio Hike

This loop hike starts at Lago d'Antorno and leads to Rifugio Fonda Savio (2,367 m), which is nestled in the heart of the Cadini di Misurina at the foot of Torre Wundt. The refuge and the area around Passo dei Tocci offer stunning views of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and the impressive peaks of the Sesto Dolomites from a rocky cirque of impressive towers and spires.

Remarks

Parking: a few free spots are available along the road near Lago d'Antorno, but in very limited numbers. During peak season, it is advisable to arrive very early as spots are taken by dawn.

Description and difficulties of the hike

From the Lago d'Antorno parking lot, follow the unnumbered trail alongside the road for about 400 meters. Then, turn east onto Trail 119, which steadily climbs through sparse vegetation to Forcella di Rinbianco (2,207 m). Then, continue on Trail 117, which is steeper and rockier. It crosses a large scree slope to the pass.

Just before the refuge, a short section equipped with fixed cables as a handline crosses a rock step. This section poses no particular difficulty but calls for some care in wet weather. The trail emerges at Passo dei Tocci (2,358 m), the gateway to the Cadini, where the Rifugio Fonda Savio (2,367 m) is nestled at the foot of Torre Wundt.

From the refuge, Trail 115 begins the descent due west, first traversing below the rock faces of Ciadin dei Tocci and then continuing through a series of switchbacks that gradually reach the alpine pastures, then the coniferous forest. The slope eases significantly in the second half and leads directly back to the starting point at Lago d'Antorno.
