The Cobbler

The Cobbler hike, also known as Ben Arthur, takes you to the summit of one of the most iconic mountains in the Southern Highlands of Scotland. Its distinctive rocky peak resembles a cobbler bent over his work, hence its nickname.

Although rising to only 884 meters and just missing Munro status, this summit makes up for it with its spectacular character and panoramas of Loch Long, Loch Lomond and the beautiful Glen Croe.

Difficulties and description of the hike

The ascent of The Cobbler is physically demanding with over 900 meters of elevation gain spread over nearly 12 km. The trail is well defined and has been improved over the years, but it is not marked. The route begins with a gentle climb in switchbacks through the forest, then the path becomes rocky and steep, particularly in the final part of the ascent.

What you'll love

  • The 360° panorama from the summit, revealing breathtaking views of Loch Long, Loch Lomond and its picturesque Ben Lomond, as well as the peaks of the Arrochar Alps.
  • The three distinct summits of The Cobbler, each offering different perspectives of the surrounding landscapes.
