Hverir geothermal area
The Hverir geothermal area, located at the foot of the Namafjall mountain in the fissure zone of the Krafla volcano, is a must-see when visiting northern Iceland. Like most of the country's sites, this area has its origins in volcanic activity.
Expect to be enveloped by a particularly strong smell of sulfur. This is due to the high level of activity beneath your feet, as the magma chamber of this system lies just a few kilometers below the Hverir site. Here you can observe almost all the phenomena typical of volcanic landscapes: boiling mud pools, hissing fumaroles, steam vents, all set against a lunar landscape of orange hues.
