Waterfall Circle Hike
Hike overview
The Waterfall Circle takes you from Laugarfell to the heart of Iceland's magnificent Eastern Highlands. This rarely visited loop reveals a majestic canyon and five of the region's most powerful waterfalls. Admire Kirkjufoss, Faxi, and Stuðlafoss; the latter is surrounded by spectacular basalt columns.
At the end of the hike, which you will likely share with more sheep than hikers, you can relax in Laugarfell's natural hot springs.
Remarks
Accommodation: Laugarfell is a mountain refuge that offers accommodations, meals, and camping. Reservations are recommended during the high season.
Hot Springs: Visitors who are not staying overnight must pay a fee to access the Laugarfell hot springs (indicative price in 2025: ISK 2,700 per person).
Difficulties of the hike
The hike is easy and follows a relatively flat, well-marked trail. Some sections are marshy, but most have footbridges.
