Monte Santu Hike

Hike overview

Monte Santu (599 m) is a small peak located near the Penna district in the village of Sari-Solenzara. This short, accessible hike offers magnificent views of the Bavella peaks to the west and the eastern coastline bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

The mostly shaded route crosses a holm oak forest before reaching the maquis, making it an ideal outing for families.

Remarks

Access and parking: Park at the Penna viewpoint above the village of Sari-Solenzara. The main parking lot has limited space for three to five vehicles. If it is full, you can park further down in the village and walk to the water reservoir.

Difficulties of the hike

Starting from the Penna viewpoint, the hike follows a well-marked trail and is short and easy. First, it follows a paved road through the village to the water reservoir. The final 30 minutes to the summit involve a steeper climb on rocky terrain with a few steep sections, though there are no technical difficulties. This mostly shaded round trip is ideal for families.

What you'll love

  • The 360° panorama from the summit: Spectacular views of the Bavella peaks and their jagged massif to the west, as well as the eastern plain and the Mediterranean Sea to the east
  • A mostly shaded trail, ideal for hot summer days
  • Few visitors, which allows you to enjoy the panorama in peace and quiet
