Piscia di Gallu Waterfall
The Piscia di Gallu waterfall hike takes you to one of the most impressive waterfalls in Corsica: a 60-meter-high cascade in the heart of the Ospedale Forest.
In addition to the waterfall, the trail winds through magnificent Laricio pine forests and past stunning rock formations, including the renowned Sentinelle Rock, a balancing granite boulder. However, this site is very popular and attracts many hikers, especially during the high season.
Remarks
Parking: A large paid parking lot is available at the start of the trail, and there is a restaurant and bar for refreshments after the hike.
Best time: It is strongly recommended to leave early in the morning for several reasons: to avoid the crowds, to enjoy the coolness on the rocky, shadeless part of the trail, and to have good lighting for pictures of the waterfall, which faces east.
Difficulties and description of the hike
The hike is very well maintained and marked in yellow. It is an easy hike all the way to the top of the waterfall. First, it winds gently through the pine forest, then it crosses a rocky plateau offering unobstructed views of the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio.
To reach the viewpoint below the waterfall, the trail becomes significantly steeper. This final section has ropes and guardrails to secure the descent, but caution is required, especially in wet weather.
What you'll love
- An impressive, 60-meter-high waterfall crashing onto a huge granite boulder before ending its course in a beautiful natural pool.
- Magnificent landscapes along the trail: A Laricio pine forest, curious rock formations, and panoramic views of the valley and the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio.
- The numerous small waterfalls and natural pools with turquoise waters along the Petra Piana stream during the first part of the hike.
