Purcaraccia Waterfalls Hike

Hike overview

ATTENTION: Following several accidents, access to the Purcaraccia waterfalls is regulated by a prefectural decree. From July 1 to September 15, hiking is prohibited unless you are accompanied by a professional guide. This decree is still in effect in 2025.

Set out on a must-see hike in southern Corsica in the Bavella Massif. Erosion caused by the Purcaraccia stream has carved out magnificent natural pools, connected by waterfalls and slides. This exceptional setting is a deep canyon lined with impressive walls and numerous peaks.

However, the large number of tourists during peak season can disrupt the tranquility of the area. Don't hesitate to go further upstream or come early in the morning to find serenity.

Remarks

Access restrictions: Following several accidents and high visitor numbers, access to the Purcaraccia waterfalls has been regulated by prefectural decree since 2021. From July 1 to September 15, hiking is prohibited unless accompanied by a professional guide. The gendarmerie carries out checks and fines offenders €135. Be sure to check with the Quenza town hall or the prefecture before planning this hike.

Difficulties and description of the hike

The trail is of good quality and partially shaded. Although the trail is not marked, cairns mark the way. Expect to encounter rocky passages that require the use of your hands for balance, as well as a few short exposed sections. You will also need to cross the stream several times, sometimes walking directly in the water.
