GR20 Stage 5: From Tighiettu to Ciottulu di i Mori

Fifth stage of the GR20 in a north-south direction, linking the Tighiettu (1680 m) and Ciottulu di i Mori (1999 m) refuges. This day is much more accessible than the previous one, with no major technical difficulties. After a short descent to the Ballone sheepfold, the trail winds through the Albertacce communal forest. This is followed by a steep climb of around one and a half kilometers to the Bocca di Foggialle pass (1963 m). The Ciottulu di i Mori refuge is then revealed, nestling at the foot of the majestic peaks of Capu Tafunatu (2335 m) and Paglia Orba (2525 m), an impressive sight. It's only a short 15-minute walk to the refuge. Note that this is the highest hut on the trek, so nights can be chilly, especially at the beginning and end of the season.

REMARKS

For the more intrepid and those who are not afraid of heights, it is possible to climb the emblematic summit of Paglia Orba (2525 m) from the Ciottulu di i Mori refuge (see hike description here). Bear in mind, however, that this is a technically very difficult climb. It should only be attempted by experienced mountaineers. The view from the summit is breathtaking, certainly one of Corsica's most majestic peaks.
